Keep on keeping on.

Hi Internet, it’s me.

Since going vegan, I’ve received a lot of criticism from my family and friends. People always have something to say and it seems that only a few of them have positive comments. So I’m writing this now about how I deal with it and how I stay motivated for anyone struggling with something similar.

The thing that gets to me is I just don’t understand why people are so offended by my own personal choice. I’ve done my research and I know all of the benefits of a vegan diet. I know I’m saving the planet. I know I’m saving the lives of animals. I know I’m living a healthier lifestyle. It’s disheartening when people you care about just make fun of you because they don’t seem to understand.

Although, the thing that us vegans have to realize is that people are only being negative because they don’t know any better. They have the misconception that all vegans are trying to jump down your throat and force you to join them. That’s just not true. I believe it’s a personal choice but I’m more than willing to answer questions if someone’s curious.

So my best advice is to keep on keeping on because you’re doing the right thing. Don’t let negativity affect you and don’t be afraid to speak up and say how you feel either. You also shouldn’t waste your breath on explaining why you’re vegan to people who have nothing good to say. Focus on the supportive people and the ones who actually want to know. These are words that I heard from Victoria Moran, the author of Main Street Vegan, when she spoke at a vegan Thanksgiving potluck on my school’s campus.
